It can also serve as a Chat client for real time communication
Functions can be added to gmail to allow for sms messaging.

ReplyDelete@Lori, it is in the labs section of Gmail. Click on the "Settings" menu link found in the top right hand corner of your Gmail page. Then in the submenu, you will see a link for "Labs". The "Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat" tools is found about 3/4 of the way down the page. Enable it then scroll to the bottom of the page and save your changes.
